The Luxor Temple is one of the most beautiful ancient temples in Egypt, dating back to over 4,000 years ago. The temple was built by two great kings of Egypt, Amenhotep III and Ramses, to worship the gods and was dedicated to Amun. After the fall of the Pharaohs, the temple was partially destroyed. However, it was later rebuilt by Alexander the Great. The Temple of Hathor is another Egyptian attraction. Located in the city of Dendera, this temple was built to worship Hathor, one of the most important Egyptian gods. Hathor is the goddess of love, beauty, music, and pleasure. Considered by Egyptians to be the wife of Horus, Hathor looks like a woman with two cow horns and a sun ring on her head.
Abu Simbel is a historic site in Southern Egypt where you can find two enormous stone temples. These temples were built in the 13th century BC during the reign of Ramses II. The temples of Abu Simbel are made entirely of stone. More than 50,000 stonemasons have collaborated in its construction. One of the exciting stories about Abu Simbel is the relocation that took place from 1964 to 1966 in collaboration with UNESCO. The Egyptian government wanted to build dams in the area. Therefore, they moved the temples to the top of the rock so they would not be damaged. These temples were divided into pieces and rebuilt elsewhere.
Cairo is a large city with modern skyscrapers and magnificent monuments. Near the Luxor temples, there is a large area with no signs of glitter and urban structures on the southeastern outskirts of this beautiful city. This area is known as the city of the dead. It has become an underground city with mummified inhabitants who died 2,300 years ago. These mummies did not belong to the pharaohs or the royal family but to the monks and religious leaders of the government, who held a very high position then. So far, 17 mummies have been discovered in this strange city, and excavations are still ongoing.
The Mosque of Ibn Tulun is one of the oldest mosques in Cairo, built between 876 and 879 AD by Ahmad ibn Tulun, the Abbasid Caliph of Egypt. This mosque is built around a courtyard with two domes and a minaret. This minaret has an external spiral staircase, which seems to have been constructed centuries after the main building was commissioned. Parts of the James Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me were filmed in this mosque.
The White Desert is one of Egypt's most strange attractions. An all-white area nestled in a dry, waterless, grassy desert. This desert shows a peculiar and different landscape and depicts a gypsum land. If you are an adventurer and like to see remarkable and unique scenes, do not miss watching this spectacular desert. The White Desert is located 45 kilometers from the city of Al-Farafra.
South Sinai is one of Egypt's most important recreation centers. Located on the Sinai Peninsula, it consists of several recreational areas, one of which is the coastal village of Dahab. This village is located near the southern tip of the Sinai Desert, 85 kilometers away from Sharm el-Sheikh. Here, you can find excellent accommodations at a reasonable cost and experience activities such as diving, surfing, and camel riding. You can also access the shores of the Red Sea from here.
The St. Catherine’s Monastery is one of the oldest and most beautiful attractions in Egypt, built in the 5th century by order of Justinian I, Emperor of Eastern Rome. This monastery is located on the Sinai Peninsula on the slopes of Mount Sinai. Mount Sinai is where Moses received his ten commandments from God. The monastery houses a collection of works of art and ancient religious manuscripts.
Alexandria is the second-largest and most 'westernized' city in Egypt. The name Alexandria is derived from Alexander the Great, the king of Macedonia. During his reign, Alexander left many wars undefeated and conquered many lands. After his conquests, he ordered the construction of a city and named it Alexandria. The city of Alexandria has old markets, beach promenades, and attractive cafes that we suggest you visit.
If you are interested in ancient Egypt and want to learn more about the age of the Pharaohs, be sure to visit the Egyptian Museum. This museum is one of Egypt's most prominent attractions. It houses a precious collection of objects from the pharaonic period. More than 120,000 charming pieces of antiquity are kept in this museum, reflecting the wonders of that time. In addition to antiquities, the Egyptian Museum exhibits mummies belonging to 27 royal family members.
Egypt is one of the most mysterious places in the world. Those interested in the pharaonic period can visit the magnificent pyramids, mummies, mosques, the Nile, temples, statues, and monasteries.
