5 Days Marangu Route Kilimanjaro Climb tour: Marangu Route, famously known as the “Coca-Cola” route as you can get a bottle of Coca-Cola at each hut, is the original route established to climb Kilimanjaro. The Marangu route is often billed as one of the easiest walking routes. However, according to KINAPA, it suffers from the lowest success rate (42%) as too many climbers try to do it in only 5 days and fail because of poor acclimatization. We’ve built in an extra day’s acclimatization for you, greatly improving the success rate.

Day 1: Transfer from Arusha town to Marangu Gate – Mandara hut 2700m
Day 1: Transfer from Arusha town to Marangu Gate – Mandara hut 2700m

Early in the morning after breakfast, you’ll have a meeting with your Climbing Kilimanjaro guides before being transferred to Marangu gate around 9:00 am. It takes about 45 minutes to get there. On your arrival at Marangu gate which is in the Marangu village, normal formality of registration for climbing Kilimanjaro will happen. A backpack is significant for you to carry a few things which may be useful for the trekking day like a camera, extra clothes, skin oil, rain jacket, etc. Porters will carry other things for your Kilimanjaro climbing like food, beverage, clothes, and cooking gas. They normally walk faster than you so they will be on preparing dinner for you on time.

Day 2: Mandara hut 2700m- Horombo hut 3720m
Day 2: Mandara hut 2700m- Horombo hut 3720m

Early in the morning after breakfast, you’ll start climbing 5 Days Kilimanjaro Climb Trekking Marangu Route towards Horombo hut with your picnic lunch. From Mandara hut, the trail passes through a quick stretch of forest, then heads around the base of the Maundi Crater where you’ll leave the forest and enter the moorland. We recommend you take a quick detour up to the rim of the Maundi Crater – from here you will see the impressive Kibo Crater, and on a transparent day you’ll even be ready to see the glaciers of Kibo. It is often an excellent photography opportunity. In the moorlands, you’ll also encounter a variety of Kilimanjaro's most spectacular and strange plants within the open moorland – with giant lobelia and groundsel growing to heights of 3 and 5 meters respectively! Later in the afternoon, you reach Horombo Hut to stay for a decent dinner and overnight. Your hut will be comfortable enough to give you a great night's rest. Temperatures during the night get around the freezing point.

Day 3: Horombo hut 3720m Kibo hut 4700m
Day 3: Horombo hut 3720m Kibo hut 4700m

The 5 Days Marangu Route Kilimanjaro climb gets harder because the oxygen at these altitudes begins to thin considerably. To start today you’ll take one of the two trails to the “Saddle”, located between the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo. Stick with the lower route, which is easier and can take you past the last watering point. You ought to refill with all the water you’ll need – the following watering points are getting to be at Horombo hut once you return there on your descent the night after. Remember you need to drink enough water. It’ll take 5 to 7 hours to achieve Kibo Hut where you’ll rest and have dinner. This is often a barren area of utmost conditions, with temperatures within the dark sometimes dropping to below freezing point and daytime temperatures being relatively high. Kibo could also be an outsized stone house where 60 hikers can comfortably sleep in bunk beds – remember there’s no water system at this hut.

DAY 4: Kilimanjaro Climb Marangu Route
DAY 4: Kilimanjaro Climb Marangu Route

Today in 5 Days Kilimanjaro Climb Marangu Route will be your toughest day; you’ll be woken just before midnight and shortly leave into the cold night up a rocky path towards the Hans Meyer Cave at 5150 meters – you’ll take a quick rest here before continuing your ascent up to Gillman’s point at 5680 meters. Probably the top demanding section of the entire route because it’s extremely steep and stony – go slowly and punctiliously here. From Gillman’s Point, you’ll be walking through snow for the next 2 hours, once you finally reach the summit of Uhuru Peak at 5895 meters.

DAY 5: Horombo hut 3720 m – Marangu Gate
DAY 5: Horombo hut 3720 m – Marangu Gate

After an early and well-deserved breakfast, you continue your descent passing the Mandara hut, right down to the Marangu gate – this may take six hours. At Marangu gate, you sign your name and details to make your achievement official and receive a summit certificate.
