Overview

Kampala is Uganda’s capital; with an area of 189 square kilometers, it is the biggest city in Uganda. This hilly city, filled with valleys, rivers, and swamps, is located north of Lake Victoria. The city became the capital of Uganda after the country gained independence from Britain in 1962.

  • Kasubi Tombs

The royal tombs of Kasubi are where four Buganda kings and their families are buried. It is thus considered a major spiritual and cultural site according to UNESCO. The tombs are also important for their architectural ingenuity.

  • Lake Victoria

Being Africa’s biggest lake and the largest tropical lake in the world, Lake Victoria is also the source of the Nile River. Kampala borders the lake in the south, and you can enjoy the beautiful view on its shores.

  • Kidepo Valley National Park


It is about 220 square kilometers and mainly consists of open tree savannah. There are two rivers and a hot spring in the park. Tourists can visit this wildlife park for nature walks or Game Viewing by cars on dirt roads.

  • Uganda National Mosque


A great number of Ugandans are Muslims. The national mosque of Uganda is the largest of its kind in East Africa. It is located on Kampala Hill and has fantastic architecture and a great view.

  • Uganda Museum

The museum has many artifacts of Uganda’s history, culture, archeology, etc. You can quickly familiarize yourself with the culture and history of the country if you are on your first-time tour.

  • Uganda Martyrs’ Shrine (Namugongo)

It is 9 miles away from the city. The shrine is a Roman Catholic minor church.

Tourist Transportation

One of the most commonplace transportation methods in East Africa is motorcycle taxis, also known as “boda bodas” there are many boda bodas in Kampala to help you get around the city. Another cheap way to get around town is by “tuk-tuks” or tricycles. New electric tuk-tuks have hit the streets of Uganda in the past couple of years!

When Is the Best Time to Take a tour

With two annual green seasons, Kampala’s climate is tropical. There is rainfall all year long, but it gets heavier from August to December, especially from February to June. So, make sure to take an umbrella with you if you’re visiting in April!
