    Top Attraction

If you’re staying in Bodrum, don’t forget to include the following on your bucket list:

    • Visit Mausoleum at Halicarnassus

Mausolus was a Persian satrap (ruler) of Halicarnassus during the 4th century BC. After his death, a grand shrine was built in his memory. It was named Mausoleum, after the king. It was listed as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World; nowadays, the word is synonymous with any grand burial tomb. Not much of the original monument is left today, except for a few broken columns and pieces of rubble. If you appreciate history, don’t miss this one; you can buy tickets for cheap!

    • Visit St. Peter Castle

The Castle of St. Peter, also known as Bodrum Castle, towers above the city coastline and is a place you can’t miss! The building was erected between 1402 and 1437 by the Knights Hospitallers of Rhodes. Parts of the castle’s fortifications were built out of the ruins of the Mausoleum. The fort held out against multiple Ottoman attacks until it finally fell in 1522. In recent years, parts of the castle have been repurposed into a museum dedicated to showcasing the underwater discoveries of shipwrecks in the Aegean Sea.

    • Explore the Museum of Underwater Archaeology

Even if you aren’t interested in underwater archaeology, this extremely excellent museum inside the Castle of St. Peter is a must-see site. The exhibitions are shown in several halls of the castle’s top floor, recently renovated and restored. These include old relics such as coins, pieces of gold jewelry, reconstructed models of some of the ships, along with amphora, clay work, and iron and bronze weapons. During your visit, make sure to go to the top of the towers and enjoy the beautiful view of the sea and the city beneath you.

    • Take Boat Trips

If you plan on spending your holiday on a boat in the Mediterranean or the Aegean, Bodrum is the place for you. The boat tours offer many different experiences, from a day trip sailing around the Bodrum Peninsula to multi-day yacht journeys along the shore or the Greek Islands. You can even partake in diving activities since the water is crystal clear; there are shipwrecks scattered on the seabed, too; so that’s a bonus!

    • Visit Bodrum Old Town

One of the city’s most attractive areas is the narrow streets surrounding the beach, market, and marina. These winding, twisting roads are some of the photographers’ favorite spots in Bodrum. Here, you can sense the old fishing town Bodrum was once.

    Shopping

    Shop at the Bodrum Bazaar

Bodrum offers everything you need for some shopping therapy. Behind St. Peter’s Castle, several shaded pedestrian pathways make up the old town bazaar, which is filled with old and new shops, selling all sorts of stuff in all ranges of prices. Whatever you’re looking for, you most probably will find it here. If the bazaar isn’t enough, the city does not lack shopping malls either.

Bodrum also has great nightlife. The city is busiest when people come out for an after-dinner walk at night near the harbor.

When Is the Best Time to Take a tour

The months of July and September are the best time to visit Bodrum. At this time of the year, temperatures usually reach over 30 degrees Celsius, perfect for swimming, relaxing on the beach, and getting tanned. However, the city’s cooler climate during October and November is preferable if you plan on going outdoors, hiking, or sightseeing.
